Becca’s Boudoir!

Creating and emphasizing body-positive boudoir feels more and more important to me these days. As women, we often look at ourselves and just see our flaws. And you might always notice your flaws, BUT they do NOT mean you aren’t beautiful- they show how hard we work, how we’ve struggled, changed, and grown.

Women’s voices are often overshadowed by our culture’s obsession with physical beauty. But women are whole beings! Acknowledging this, we’re asking the boudoir babe in each series of photos to answer some questions about beauty, their bodies, and their experiences with womanhood.

The questions below were answered by Becca, a lovely woman who had boudoir photos taken for her wedding anniversary a few months back.

What motivated you to sign-up for a boudoir shoot?

I’ve struggled with self confidence for most of my life and would beat myself up for the smallest bodily imperfections. I recently got to a place where I realized I’m never going to have the “perfect” body and that’s fine! Perfect is boring and I wanted to celebrate that by taking some sexy-ass pictures.

What would you say to a woman who doesn't think she is beautiful enough to be photographed?

I would say if you don’t feel beautiful enough to be photographed now, do it anyways! I can guarantee you’ll feel beautiful once you see how amazing and empowering boudoir pictures can be. I think confidence is what makes you beautiful and seeing pictures of yourself looking super sexy is a huge confidence boost.

How does your favorite photo from your session make you feel?

It makes me feel like a powerful sex goddess. I look at myself in that photo and think, “she can do anything”! I admit I will casually admire the pictures on my phone from time to time - especially if I’m having a particularly bad day.

What do you love most about being a woman?

My favorite thing about being a woman is the power that comes with it. We are often underestimated and I try to use that to my advantage when I can.

What are your reflections on beauty?

I think beauty can be a great source of happiness but also a great source of insecurity. I think we get so caught up in what others think is beautiful that we can forget or ignore what we think is beautiful. But that’s really all that matters: what you think is beautiful, and the people that see the beauty in you.

New Website!

We did it! We launched a new boudoir site! You might already notice this...since you're on the new site. But I'll just say it: this site is superior in pretty much all ways to the previous one. Its photos are updated: I've grown as a boudoir photographer in the past few years, and am so pleased to have photos to showcase here.

I received A LOT of feedback from my Facebook announcement (I tried to screenshot the comments as evidence but it was like 6 screenshots so this seems sufficient!):

I'll also be honest that this is a part of my business that I have a hard time with: the business/marketing side. I LOVE people and taking photos, but often stress about the business stuff because I feel like a phony. I struggle with finances, with advertising and selling myself and my craft, and with maintaining websites.

I'm learning to ask for help where and when I need it. I'm allowing myself to excel where I can, learn where I can, and give up a bit where I can. It's part of running a business and being self-employed: I try to do it all (and did for a while) but as I grow I learn what I need to stay happy and healthy- and still enjoying the photography side. So yea, I got some help with the site. Thank you friends! Cheers to being human!

Anywho, I hope you like the site.

Shout out to all the beautiful women who allowed me to use their photos on the site- you're sexy AND generous.

Get in touch if you have any suggestions for the site, or if you want to book a session!

Top 5 Reasons to Book a Boudoir Session!
madison boudoir photography happy sexy

1) You’re Celebrating.

You're getting married, or turning 30, 40, 50, 60, etc!  It’s your anniversary. You reached a goal of yours. Your cancer is in remission. You are pregnant. You had a baby. Your kids are moving out for college. You are celebrating how amazing YOU are. No matter what: congrats, I’m here to take your boudoir photos- now let’s celebrate!

2) You’re worth it.

It’s easy to do (and we alllll do it) but you don’t need to wait until you’ve lost that 10 pounds, or got in shape, or have perfect hair, etc.- you are worth it now. This is the youngest you'll ever be, and while I really believe that women are gorgeous as they age, I also know that you'll treasure these photos for years to come. You are enough, and that is beautiful.

3) Woman power.

A common theme comes up in my reviews from boudoir clients: their experience was empowering. After the shoot you feel amazing and confident. You feel like a model. Like the goddess you are. After you get your photos I promise you’ll feel equally as gorgeous, and proud. Because you put yourself out there, and you are strong.

4) To give an unforgettable gift to your special person.

They. Will. Be. Floored. It’s an unexpected and incredibly sexy thing to give an album of risque photos to that person that makes your heart (and body) sing. They’ll love it, and you’ll love how good it feels to show them your stunning confidence.

5) Treat yo’self.

Everyone deserves to be pampered sometimes- so treat yo’self (a la the amazing show Parks and Recreation). You work hard. You deserve a memento of this moment in your life. I will treat yo’ to a great time, we will have fun, and you’ll get some great photos of YOU.

My Continuing Photography Education: Camp Do More
boudoir-photography-camp-do-more-blog-103.jpg

I just got home from a retreat for Boudoir photographers called Camp Do More. It was in Ontario, 3 hours north of Toronto. I think it's really important for me to get out there and keep learning new methods for photography, not to mention it's just good for the soul. This was the first time this Camp happened and it was absolutely life changing.

Camp Do More reminded me that I LOVE LOVE LOVE photography. This was the most fun I've had shooting in a decade. It was full of workshops for posing, lighting, business management, all led by experts in the field. And there were so many photographers there to learn from and network with.

The most magical part was definitely going into the forest with a group of women, a bag of props, and our cameras and taking boudoir photos of each other. It was very nostalgic for me, reminding me of my high school days and how much fun my friends and I had experimenting with photography anywhere we could. It literally brought tears to my eyes! I learned so much and feel so rejuvenated.

I came home with great memories and lots of ideas for future shoots, especially natural shots. Camp Do More filled my creative juices up to the tippy top. Please get in touch if you're looking for a different style of boudoir! I plan on riding this feeling as long as I can :).
